Ecosystem Services Valuer
Give nature a seat at the economic table with this GIS based valuer for ecosystem services.
Valuing ecosystem services is a multifaceted process that recognises and quantifies the less-tangible benefits ecosystems contribute to human well-being, health, livelihoods, and survival. Our Ecosystem Services Valuer will clarify the economic value of ecosystems.
The method used by Eco-index to value ecosystem services is based on internationally recognised scientific research. Our method follows a benefit transfer approach to provide a starting point by assigning a constant value per hectare of biome which a given ecosystem nests within, and adjusting for Aotearoa NZ economic conditions (e.g., inflation). This approach is similar to GDP accounting methods.
